Ride Historic Streetcars at This Unique Ohio Museum

The Northern Ohio Railway Museum in Medina County opened for the season over Memorial Day weekend.

The seasonally operating Northern Ohio Railway Museum once again began welcoming visitors over Memorial Day weekend, providing trolley and train fans an opportunity to climb aboard and learn about the mode of transportation that helped build northern Ohio.

Located in the Medina County village of Seville, the Northern Ohio Railway Museum celebrates electric railways such as trolleys, interurbans and rapid transit. Walking tours that last roughly 30 minutes take visitors through the buildings on-site, and there are hourly screenings of the 2018 film “The Trolley.” Originally produced for Imax screens, it is shown here on a large HD screen and is the only place in Ohio the movie can be seen.

The Northern Ohio Railways Museum operates 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays through Sept. 26. On the second and fourth Saturdays of the month, the museum offers rides on it vintage trolley cars in addition to the walking tours and film. Among those available to ride are Car 12, a 1914 product of G.C. Kuhlman Car Co. that started on the streets of Cleveland and finished on the Shaker Heights Rapid Transit line. The other is Car 109, an ADA-accessable rapid-transit car from 1954 that operated on the Cleveland Transit System. Rides last about 20 minutes.

Admission is $7 for adults and $3 for children ages 6 to 12 on the days trolleys are operating (kids under 6 get in free), and just $3 for everyone ages 6 and older on nonoperating days. On operating days, museum admission includes unlimited rides.
