See “Winter’s Interlude: An Orchid Experience” at Kingwood Center Gardens

From Jan. 31 to Mar. 6, take an intermission from the cold at this brilliant floral exhibition designed with over 500 orchid varieties.

For those in search of a tropical escape this winter without having to board a flight, Kingwood Center Gardens in Mansfield offers just that in the form of a limited-time orchid exhibition that brings the warmth and vibrancy of the tropics indoors.

The destination’s “Winter’s Interlude: An Orchid Experience” opens Jan. 31 and runs until Mar. 6. Included in the price of general admission, visitors to the garden estate can see displays featuring more than 500 common and exotic orchids, as well as other tropical plants.

Attendees can begin their botanic tour at Kingwood’s Orangery in the Display Greenhouse, then continue on to the Tropical House. The exhibition concludes with a vibrant wall display of Phalaenopsis orchids — also known as moth orchids— which are considered one of the most popular and accessible houseplant orchid varieties.

“The design will highlight the existing arches and windows with vivid pops of color and unique, fragrant blooms,” MacKenzie Cole, lead designer of this year’s experience, said in a Jan. 28 press release. “In the Tropical House, different genera within the orchid family will be featured in multiple educational displays.”

During their visit, guests are also invited to enjoy educational programming about orchids for both children and adults. Access to “Winter’s Interlude: An Orchid Experience” is included with general admission to Kingwood Center Gardens. Following the final day of the event on March 7, the on-site Garden & Gift Shop will offer a one-day orchid sale starting at noon, while supplies last.
