Living-History Performance Highlights ‘Frankenstein’ Author

The Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Library & Museums in Fremont shares the story of Mary Shelley during this performance at the Hayes’ Victorian home.

The Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Library & Museums embraces the Victorian era in which its namesake lived with a special living-history presentation focused on one of the most famous science fiction and horror novels of all time.

Susan Marie Frontczak portrays Frankenstein author Mary Shelley in this program held in the Fremont home of the former president and first lady Oct. 27 and 28 at 6:30 p.m.

The presentation highlights the life of the woman whose most famous work spawned numerous modern movies and spinoff stories, but who was also a teen mother, scholar and social reformer.

Frontczak’s performance shares how the author drew from happenings in her own life to construct one of the world’s most famous monsters. At the conclusion of the program, Frontczak will field questions in character and out of character from those in attendance.

She has given 900 such performances during the past 25 years, portraying historical figures ranging from Eleanor Roosevelt to Clara Barton to Erma Bombeck.

Tickets are $35 or $30 for museum members and can be purchased online until the start of the event each evening or at the museum’s front desk.
