4 Veterans Day Events in Ohio

Honor the brave men and women of our military at these events that mark Veterans Day.

November offers a chance to honor the service and sacrifices of the men and women who have worn the uniform of our country. Across the state, cities and towns host events honoring the courage and commitment of our nation’s veterans. The city of Canal Winchester will be marking the holiday with the local VFW post hosting a pancake breakfast for veterans and their families prior to a parade. Veterans March and Ceremony | Nov. 8
Downtown Canal Winchester comes alive with pride and patriotism during this annual tribute. The morning begins with a free pancake breakfast for veterans and their families at the Community Center before a march through the city’s flag-lined streets. The procession ends at Stradley Park, where the community gathers for a moving ceremony featuring local speakers, music, a 21-gun salute and the playing of ”Taps”

67th Annual Veterans Day Commemoration | Nov. 11
The Cincinnati & Hamilton County Public Library marks its 67th annual tribute to local veterans with a ceremony at 10:30 a.m. at the Downtown Main Library. This year’s program includes a keynote from retired U.S. Army Col. Richard L. Bevington, Jr. There will also be wreath presentations from local veterans, tributes to each military branch and patriotic performances by the Hyde Park Brass Quintet. Guests are invited to explore the library’s Veterans History area and a new exhibit honoring Vietnam veterans called “Through Our Eyes.” A community reception with refreshments follows the ceremony.

Soldiers’ and Sailors Monument Veterans Day Program | Nov. 11
Gather inside Cleveland’s Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Monument on the city’s Public Square at 11 a.m. for its annual Veterans Day program, a moving tribute to those who served. This year’s ceremony includes speakers Navy veteran Lloyd Tomlinson Jr., who served on the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower and keynote speaker Col. Dartanian Warr. As part of the celebrations, wreaths will also be placed by local veterans as a tribute to each military branch. 

Veterans Day Ceremony at the National Veterans Memorial and Museum | Nov. 11
The National Veterans Memorial and Museum in Columbus welcomes guests for its annual Veterans Day ceremony at 11 a.m., featuring actor Matthew Modine, known for his role in “Full Metal Jacket,” as keynote speaker. The event is free with registration, and attendees can also join a meet-and-greet with Modine following the ceremony for a small fee. The museum’s current exhibition, “Matthew Modine’s Full Metal Jacket Diary,” can also be explored. The exhibition features a collection of photos he took during the filming of this Vietnam War flick in 1987.
