Celebrate Halloween With Downtown Wadsworth’s ‘Square on the Square’

Halloween is arriving early with Main Street Wadsworth’s 13th annual “Scare on the Square” event, returning Oct. 17.

Wadsworth’s historic downtown district transforms into a fright-filled interactive Halloween fantasyland chock full of spooky events and activities, making for plenty of family-friendly fun. From trick-or-treating, crafts and a petting zoo to a recreation of Michael Jackson’s iconic “Thriller” music video, visitors are sure to get in the Halloween spirit at this annual event from 3:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Oct. 17. Costumes are encouraged for all ages, so come in your best Halloween regalia and bring your best dancing shoes.

From 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., trick-or-treat at participating local businesses before heading over to try your luck at Mosaic Church’s life-sized ‘Candyland’ board game. If you’re looking for something truly terrifying, though, see into your future at Madame Leota’s fortune-telling booth at M.C. Real Estate.

Need a break from the frights? Mosaic Church will also have plenty of Halloween crafts and a petting zoo with farm animals, while Divine Harmony Entertainment will be hosting circus shows beginning at 3:30 and 5 p.m. at Downtown Pocket Park. Receive your very own balloon creation from a balloon artist at Wadsworth Public Library from 5 to 7 p.m.

Once the sun has set and darkness has fallen over Wadsworth, the popular (and…thrilling) Wadsworth Thriller begins. Watch as more than 300 zombie characters gather in the streets to recreate Michael Jackson’s iconic “Thriller” music video. After the dance performance, guests can tune in for more thrills with a zombie costume contest, or keep on grooving with DJ Timbo’s dance party at Downtown Pocket Park.

Scare on the Square is a free, all-ages event. Downtown street closures for this event begin at 3:30 p.m., with streets reopening around 7:45 p.m.
