Plan a Fall Day Trip to Sauder Village This October

Fall is in full swing at Ohio’s largest living history destination. From apple treats to trick-or-treating and pumpkin painting, discover new happenings every weekend through Oct. 31.

Roughly an hour southwest of Toledo, Archbold’s Sauder Village welcomes October with a full lineup of fall-themed events including a show in a 1920s speakeasy, historic cooking lessons, woodcarving shows, apple treats and, of course, trick-or-treating. With new events happening every weekend, families and adults alike are sure to celebrate the spirit of the season with this lineup.

Apple Week | Oct. 7–10 and 14–17
Join Sauder Village for Apple Week, where visitors can see the village’s 150-year-old cider press in action and learn about traditional apple recipes. Be sure to grab a seasonal apple dumpling or pumpkin cookie from the Doughbox Bakery. Included with Historic Village admission.

Pumpkin Patio Party at the Barn | Oct. 10
Stick around for the Pumpkin Patio Party at the Barn Restaurant for pumpkin painting, gourd bowling and ring toss, and, if you need to replenish your energy after an afternoon of fall fun, make your own trail mix.  Free and open to the public.

Dueling Pianos | Oct. 10
Later in the evening, the village’s 1920s speakeasy will host Felix and Fingers for the Dueling Pianos Fundraiser as part of the 50th anniversary concert series. The interactive show of live song requests includes appetizers from HubHaus Brewing, with a cash bar in the speakeasy before the show. This event is ticketed and open to those 18 and older.  

Trunk or Treat | Saturdays Oct. 10–31
Sauder Village Campground’s Trunk or Treat event also begins on Saturday Oct. 10 and runs every Saturday in October. Campers can decorate their sites and trick-or-treat with fellow families.  For campground guests.

40th Annual Woodcarvers Show | October 23–24
Stop into Founders’ Hall Oct. 23 and 24 for the 40th Annual Woodcarvers Show. One of the region’s largest and oldest wood artist shows, the Woodcarvers Show features artists from all over the Midwest and an array of woodcarving techniques and pieces with many available for purchase.  Included with Historic Village admission, or $15 for exhibit-only admission.

Eerie Nights | Oct. 23–24
After the Woodcarvers Show, venture over to 1920s Main Street for Eerie Nights, featuring trick-or-treating, fall activities and a glimpse of some century-old Halloween traditions.  This is a ticketed event.

Fall Food Preservation Week | October 28–31
From Oct. 28 through 31, learn how 19th-century families prepared for winter with historic canning, harvesting and cooking demonstrations at the Historic Village. On Friday and Saturday, this event will feature lessons on historic pig butchering by farm staff. Included with Historic Village admission.

The Historic Village is open on select dates through October 31. Admission starts at $28 for adults, with discounted tickets for students and seniors available.
