Here are three reasons to visit Lancaster, located about 30 minutes from Columbus, and Fairfield County before the end of autumn.

Scarecrow Search: The annual Trail of Scarecrows is back for 2025, featuring more than 250 handmade scarecrows crafted by individuals and local businesses across 15 Fairfield County communities. A trail map is available on the Visit Fairfield County app and shows where each scarecrow is located. This year’s trail theme is “It’s Fair Time” in honor of the 175th year of the Fairfield County Fair, which concluded Oct. 11.

Wands & Wizards: Downtown Lancaster is once again morphing into its own world of wizards during this annual celebration sure to delight visitors all ages. From Oct. 17 through 19, Wands & Wizards Weekend comes to Lancaster with a slew of fun activities, including wand making and potion brewing. Costumes are encouraged at this family-friendly event that also includes a selection of foods that keep with the theme.

Amazing Apples:  Whether you enjoy them baked with cinnamon in a fresh apple crumble or coated in gooey caramel and served on a stick, no one can deny the delicious, juicy crunch of a fresh apple. Visitors to Hugus Fruit Farm in the village of Rushville can purchase bags of hand-picked apples and fresh-pressed apple cider. Thursday visitors can even watch the cider-pressing process from the farm’s viewing platform.
