Relax & Recharge: Chill Out

A restored, century-old horse barn in Wapakoneta is now home to the charming tasting room of Five Vines Winery (pictured). Order a wine flight to find your favorites from the winery’s homegrown (and handpicked) collection of French-hybrid grapes like Frontenac and Traminette, both hardy varieties that thrive even in Ohio’s cold winters. Pack a picnic for an intimate afternoon or listen to live music on the patio during summer weekends with one of their slushies.

For more than 25 years, The Lakehouse Inn in Geneva has offered beautiful, calming views of Lake Erie and decadent wine options like a Barile Fermantato Chardonnay and apple wine (crafted in small batches with local apples). Be sure to visit the day spa, where you can indulge in soothing treatments like lavender salt foot soaks, salt stone massages, body scrubs, and more. Need a little more time? Relax all weekend long when you book an overnight stay in the inn or at one of the idyllic lakeside cottages.

Sip Outside: Feel the Breeze

Four generations of winemakers tending to the vines of Twisted Vine Family Vineyard in Patriot means this winery knows a thing or two about Ohio wine. Sip on a wine flight, paired with a plate of locally made cheese from Laurel Valley Creamery in nearby Gallipolis to savor the magic of the Appalachian foothills. Relax on the tasting room’s deck, which overlooks the serene vineyard nestled within the Crown City Wildlife Area.

After spending the day exploring Lake Erie’s islands, come back to keep the good vibes going at Rocky Point Winery in Marblehead. With live music every summer weekend, a covered outdoor pavilion, and more than a dozen varieties of wine to choose from, it’s just the breath of fresh air you need. Stay the night at the winery’s Red Fern Inn, and if you keep your window open, you can enjoy the calming breeze off Lake Erie even after the sun sets.

Celebrate Good Times: Sparkle Here

Sip lakeside at Vincent William Wine in Madison, where the sandy shore and the expansive view of Lake Erie make a picture-perfect backdrop to a ritzy dinner. Enjoy gentle sounds of the water from the patio while you dine on dishes like glazed salmon roulade and braised short rib. Extend your celebration by staying the night in one of seven French country-style boutique rooms. In the morning, enjoy breakfast with mimosas or coffee and take a dip in the pool.

From Sunday jazz brunches at The Bistro to live music performances at The Still House to the full-service spa, Gervasi Vineyard Resort & Spa in Canton has it all. The resort, inspired by the Tuscan landscape, offers six dining locations ranging from more casual to elevated experiences, as well as three luxury overnight accommodation options that will make you feel pampered and posh. Be sure to visit The Cave for an intimate and unforgettable wine tasting experience
and an introduction to Gervasi’s wines and wine-making process.

Gathering Spots: High Energy

Specializing in small-batch wines, Revel Urban Winery is a trendy gathering spot in Cincinnati’s OTR district. Try a wine cocktail or order a locally crafted beer (including the house’s own brew) to enjoy while reveling with friends in the expansive tasting room. Located right across from the Emery Theater, it’s also the perfect place to gather before (or after) a show.

In Marysville, Retreat 21 features the space and the scenery perfect for a group gathering. In the summertime, the patio makes it easy to soak up the beauty of the surrounding landscape while catching up with friends or family. And when the weather turns colder, enjoy cozy evenings and casual conversation around the fire pit or get competitive at the curling lanes. For a more private space to gather, book the Cider Nook and try the best of the venue’s wines and ciders.
