Save The Date for These 6 Events at Ariel-Foundation Park

This heritage park in Mount Vernon hosts a variety of events throughout the summer, including a Fourth of July celebration, live music and more.

Whether you’re a local looking for summer fun or a visitor just passing through town, Ariel-Foundation Park in Mount Vernon offers a wealth of summer happenings. The destination is best known for the Rastin Observation Tower, which rises above the 250-acre park, but it plays hosts to events throughout the season. Be sure to mark your calendar for these happenings that range from live music to fireworks.

Jazz at The Park: May 26
The Knox Community Orchestra promises to deliver the smooth sounds of a large jazz ensemble. The group plays styles ranging from swing to Latin and pays homage to jazz legends such as Glenn Miller and Count Basie. The group will also play some modern tunes at this free event on Memorial Day, May 26. Be sure to arrive early for a good spot, and be ready to enjoy the show at 4:30 p.m.

Sunset Socials: May 29 and Sept. 18
Wine lovers can head to the Knox Community Foundation Pavilion on May 29 at 7 p.m. to experience a diverse wine selection from Ohio vineyards. For those who prefer beer to wine, Sept. 18 offers a brew-focused event, during which the pavilion will transform into a biergarten, with live music and good company. Tickets for both socials are $20 each, and can be purchased online. Tickets include a tasting flight, non-alcoholic drinks and appetizers. General admission is also available for $28 on the day of the event.

Live Music Summer Kickoff: June 21
Summer starts on June 20, and what better way to welcome the sunny season than with live bluegrass. Kick off the summer with the legendary Ricky Skaggs and his band Kentucky Thunder during this ticketed event at the Schnormeier Event Center at Ariel-Foundation Park on June 21. Arrive early to grab refreshments from food trucks on-site, and make sure you’re fueled up for the show, which begins at 8 p.m.

July 4th Celebration and 10th Anniversary Party: July 4
Every year, the Mount Vernon community gathers to celebrate Independence Day. The fireworks display at 10 p.m. is preceded by a concert from Creedence Revived, a tribute to Creedence Clearwater Revival, at the Schnormeier Event Center. This free event features a selection of food trucks and refreshments.

Fantastic Summer Dance Party: Aug. 2
Ready to bust a move? The Fantastic Family Dance Party is bringing the energy to the Schnormeier Event Center on Aug. 2. From 4 to 5:30 p.m., the space transforms into a kid-friendly dance club, with pop hits played by Matt Ryan Mobile DJ Entertainment. At this free event, families can learn new moves, win fun prizes and dance alongside special surprise guests. Don’t forget to check out the food trucks parked nearby for tasty treats.

Praisestock: Aug. 17
For those looking for a summer full of faith, fellowship and fun, don’t miss Praisestock, the annual outdoor Christian worship event that supports Food For the Hungry. Held Aug. 17, this family-friendly gathering begins with a morning worship service at 10 a.m., setting the tone for a day full of live music and children’s activities. While enjoying performances by local bands and worship teams, grab a bite from food vendors and connect with local Christian organizations.
