Experience Ghost Tours and Spooky Suppers at Historic Zoar Village

This storied Tuscarawas County community celebrates October with lantern-lit walks, themed meals and trick-or-treating for the littles ones.

If you’ve ever wanted to wander an early 19th-century town by lantern light while listening to ghost stories that give you goosebumps, Historic Zoar Village has just the walking tour for you this autumn.

The historic Tuscarawas County village shares its creepiest tales during its annual Ghost Tours, one of its most anticipated events of the year. Tours are offered Oct. 10, 11, 17, 18, 24, 25 and 26, as well as Halloween night and Nov. 1 The hour-long tours head out from the Zoar store every 15 minutes starting at 6:30 p.m., with the last beginning each night at 8:45 p.m.

Tour groups walk Zoar’s preserved streets as costumed interpreters, village residents and even paranormal investigators share the eerie side of the village’s past. Free refreshments are served afterward. Tours are recommended for ages 12 and up, and tickets are required with costs beginning at $19.

“This event gets more and more popular every year, so guests should book their reservation as soon as possible,” HIstoric Zoar Village site director Tammi Shrum said in a Sept. 23, 2025 press release. “We hope everyone has a frightful time exploring the village and the haunted side of its history.”

Of course, no spooky season is complete without a fall feast. Zoar is also hosting Ghost Tour Dinners, where attendees gather for a family-style meal featuring ghoulish appetizers, hearty entrees, sides and devil’s food cake for dessert. Dinners take place Oct. 11, 17, 25 and 31 only, with the option to attend just the meal for $30 or pair it with a Ghost Tour for $49.

Families with little ones don’t have to miss out on the fun, either. Historic Zoar Village hosts its free Trick-or-Treat afternoon on Sunday, Oct. 26, from 1 to 3 p.m., followed by a costume parade and contest in the Zoar Garden (no reservations are needed).
