Explore Space and Nature at Super Star Party: Cosmic Mysteries in Kirtland

Discover the far reaches of the cosmos and the majesty of wildlife here on Earth at Penitentiary Glen Reservation’s Super Star Party: Cosmic Mysteries. On the night of Aug. 9, partake in a wide variety of intergalactic and nature-themed activities suitable for visitors of all ages.

Members of the Chagrin Valley Astronomical Society are on-site to provide insight and information while stargazing, and live astronomical demonstrations are available too. Attendees can venture through the known universe with shows at the StarLab Portable Planetarium, an inflatable dome that puts the constellations so close, they feel within reach. 

On the more nature-focused side, traverse the reservation on guided night hikes, meet with animal ambassadors from the Kevin P. Clinton Wildlife Center or ride the Lake Shore Live Steamers’ miniature train (if weather permits). Whimsical photo-ops offer the chance to capture unforgettable family moments, and snacks, crafts and scavenger hunts cap off a night that perfectly balances education and entertainment. 

Plus, you can bring home memories of the fun with space-themed merchandise and glow-in-the-dark goodies from the Nature Store.

“This event brings together two things families love: exploring nature and looking up at the stars,” Kristin Snider, Nature Center Interpretive Manager at Lake Metroparks said in a July 28, 2025, press release. “It’s an exciting way to connect science and imagination, whether you’re peeking through a telescope, hiking through the woods or learning something new inside the planetarium.”
