Enjoy Family Fun on the Farm in Lake County

Visit Lake Matroparks’ Farmpark on June 21 and 22 for Dairy Days, where kids can milk a cow, ride a pony and more.

Roll up your sleeves and channel your inner farmer during Dairy Days at Lake Metroparks Farmpark in Kirtland. The program, running June 21 and 22 is full of educational opportunities, animal encounters and delicious eats.

Visitors will learn how to milk cows and goats and discover how that milk is turned into staple dairy foods such as cheese, butter and ice cream. Participants who milk a cow will even earn a special souvenir sticker for their hard work, and sampling freshly made cheese and ice cream is a must.

A day on the farm is much more than milking cows though. Little ones can saddle up for a guided pony ride, inspiring an early love for these creatures and presenting parents with the perfect photo op.

Families can enjoy these events, which are put on by local organizations such as Sylvan Learning of Mentor and Playground World, as well as the other great nature and learning opportunities that the Farmpark’s 235 acres of gardens, fields and farm buildings has to offer. You can even chill out with a treat from Scooter’s Scoops Ice Cream Truck, which will be on-site for the day.

Besides Dairy Days, which is being held during National Dairy Month, the Farmpark regularly hosts educational programming related to gardening and farming throughout the summer. Farm Camps and special themed events give younger victors a chance to learn about farm life, meet animals and enjoy fun activities, while children 10 and over can enjoy one of this summer’s sessions about riding draft horses. These special events teach them how to ride this breed that is commonly used for ranch work around the farm.
