Dublin Creates Cool Posters for Park Explorers

This Visit Dublin Ohio passport program awards participants with Works Progress Administration-inspired posters highlighting local parks.

If you’ve yet to visit Hayden Run Falls or explore the boardwalks and trails of M.L. “Red” Trabue Nature Reserve, the Dublin Park Pass’ limited-edition poster program may just inspire you to do so between now and Sept. 30. The program, a partnership between Visit Dublin Ohio and OhioHealth, features a free mobile pass that rewards participants for checking in at different parks throughout the city.

Each visit is worth 100 points, and when participants check in at five spots, they can cash in those 500 points for one of four posters created by local artists (while supplies last). Those who check in at 20 parks can collect the entire series. Each is inspired by the Works Progress Administration posters of the late 1930s and early 1940s that highlighted national parks. With over 60 parks in Dublin’s system, there are plenty of opportunities to explore.

“It just felt like a natural fit to use a gamified pass system to really get people outside and enjoy nature,” says Leslie Rummel, head of marketing and communications for Visit Dublin, Ohio.

Developed in collaboration with the Dublin Arts Council, the series features work by four artists selected through an open call. Yani Sheng, Marie Cottrell, Kevin Lopes and Fiona Miller made the designs featuring the M.L. “Red” Trabue Nature Reserve, Hayden Run Falls, Indian Run Falls and Riverside Crossing Park, respectively.

Participants can sign up for the pass by clicking the link on the Visit Dublin Ohio website, typing in the information and clicking on the link sent via email or text. A mobile phone is needed to document each check-in, so make sure your phone location is on. Points can be redeemed for posters at the Visit Dublin Ohio visitor center on High Street.

“We have actually had over 100 people already in just two weeks to visit enough parks to collect one of the posters,” Rummel said when we talked to her on July 31.
