Arbor Day Festival & Spring Plant Sale Returns to The Dawes Arboretum

The beloved spring tradition celebrates its 33rd year at this outdoor destination in Newark on April 25 with activities for all ages.

While nature is spotlighted at The Dawes Arboretum year-round, the Arbor Day Festival & Spring Plant Sale invites community members to join in celebrating the beauty of nature and enjoy a wide variety of activities.

The free event is scheduled for April 25 between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. and brings crafts, face painting, live entertainment from jazz musician Greg Grayson, outdoor games, tree giveaway and more. The day features plenty of adventurous fun as well, with harnessed tree-climbing available for all ages. Children also have the chance to take part in a meet-and-greet with Darby, the official mascot of The Dawes Arboretum.

“As we kick off this year’s red, white and blooming season, Arbor Day is one of many fun and free special events that will bring the community together,” executive director Stephanie Crockatt said in a March 19 press release. “We welcome everyone to visit and take part in the joy and wonder of nature here in central Ohio.”

Those looking to learn a little can watch tree-planting and soda fermenting demonstrations. Or head inside the History Center for a sneak peek at the “Fueling a Legacy” Pure Oil exhibition set to open later this year. The Daweswood House will also be open for tours during the duration of the event.

Be sure to come hungry, as local food vendors BH Coffee, Ernie’s Donuts and Grilled Cheese Gangsters will be stationed at the event. For those with a sweet tooth, Velvet Ice Cream will be providing free treats.
