Age of Steam Roundhouse Museum Brings World War II History to Life

For Father’s Day weekend, take part in “Steam to Victory,” a living-history event hosted by the Sugarcreek museum that provides a fun, hands-on look into the past.

Take a ride back in time this Father’s Day with live history reenactments of World War II at the Age of Steam Roundhouse Museum in Sugarcreek. “Steam to Victory” is a two-day, immersive museum experience exploring the role of railroads in the United States during World War II.

The Age of Steam Roundhouse Museum is a fully operational locomotive storage facility, with an 18-stall brick roundhouse and a 115-foot turntable. Built in 2010 by railroad entrepreneur Jerry Joe Jacobson, the museum’s mission is to house trains and other items that contribute to preserving railroad history.

It’s only natural, then, that the museum’s extensive collection of steam locomotives, freight equipment and other railroad machinery makes it the perfect place to spend the day learning about wartime transportation and technology.

On June 13 and 14, “Steam to Victory” offers an engaging educational experience that’s sure to excite guests of all ages. Take a short ride on a historic locomotive, see reenactors take on the roles of World War II soldiers or watch live demonstrations of artillery and small arms.

In addition to the museum’s regular collection of locomotives, find displays filled with World War II-specific vehicles and memorabilia. Guided tours of the museum are also available, and a selection of food vendors round out the festivities.
