Fairport Harbor Creamery Serves Ice Cream, Mini Golf and Summer Fun

The smell of fresh waffle cones and house-made ice cream greets visitors to Fairport Harbor Creamery, a sweet spot located just steps from Lake Erie. This small-town joint serves hand-crafted ice cream, baked goods and boozy treats straight from its kitchen, leaving locals and tourists with a taste that will have them coming back to Fairport Harbor for summers to come.

Opened in September 2019, Fairport Harbor Creamery is a family operation that started as a leap of faith. The business hit its stride early, and during 2020, opened an online store and walk-up serving window.

Today, the creamery has expanded into a thriving spot in this beach community, garnering a loyal fan base. Plus, its location next to Lake Metroparks’ Fairport Harbor Lakefront Park offers visitors the chance to stop by, enjoy a sweet treat and soak up the sun.

“We love getting the chance to be at a beach town,” said Lindsey Volzer, general manager of Fairport Harbor Creamery says. “It’s kind of a no shirt, no shoes, no problem kind of vibe, and it keeps it casual”.

Volzer began her career as a trained pastry chef before opening Fairport Harbor Creamery with her in-laws. She carried her training with her by crafting the ice cream menu, bakery items and other offerings created in-house with original recipes. With the addition of a full-time baker and ice cream maker, Volzer expanded the operation and is constantly rolling out unique, custom flavors for the public to enjoy. The creamery’s most popular ice cream flavors are Peanut Butter Oreo and their seasonal Red Velvet Cake.

“[We think] about what you like to eat, what are your favorite desserts, and how can we shove that into ice cream?” Volzer said. “There’s plenty of polls online, and there’s plenty of conversations with guests that are now our friends”.

Fairport Harbor Creamery doesn’t limit its menu to just traditional ice cream. It also offers boozy treats for the 21-and-up crowd. Volzer and her mother-in-law perfected the science behind these tipsy treats, offering a complete menu of alcoholic ice cream, sundaes, shakes and floats.

In addition to its hand-crafted desserts, Fairport Harbor Creamery offers a welcoming, upbeat atmosphere for regulars and first-time customers alike.

“You’re going to walk in to a great playlist because we all work best with a little bit of music,” Volzer said. “You’re going to get kindness. ... We really just want you leaving happy.”

The fun of this shop doesn’t end inside either. A miniature golf course adjacent to the building makes for a great place to play after enjoying a sweet treat.
