Original screen-worn wardrobe and memorabilia from the 1954 holiday classic movie goes on display at the Arms Family Museum in Youngstown from Nov. 14 through Dec. 31.

The combination of singer Bing Crosby’s nostalgic voice and composer Irving Berlin’s timeless holiday song “White Christmas” has served as a beloved part of the holiday season for generations now. First recorded by Crosby in 1942, the song became the best-selling physical single of all time and, for many, provides an instant dose of nostalgia.

Now, the iconic song’s Hollywood legacy comes to the Arms Family Museum in Youngstown. “White Christmas: The Exhibition,” on display Nov. 14 through Dec. 31, celebrates the music and actors behind the films ”White Christmas” (1954) and “Holiday Inn” (1942).

Visitors can see original costumes from the films’ dance numbers and personal memorabilia that belonged to Bing Crosby and Rosemary Clooney. The sitting room of the house re-creates the memorable final scene of “White Christmas” at the general’s Columbia Inn.

“We created the final scene there with the two red dresses and actual snow falling,” says Anthony Worrellia, lead exhibit designer for the exhibition. ”We have the [general’s] cake there with the candles.”

The exhibition is part of the 18th annual Memories of Christmas Past event that transforms the historic 1905 arts-and-crafts-style mansion into a Christmas celebration through history, art and storytelling. The artifacts are from the Rosemary Clooney House in Kentucky, which has the largest collection of “White Christmas” memorabilia.

While “White Christmas” is the star attraction of this year’s event, there’s plenty more to explore throughout the house. “Nativities From Around the World” showcases manger scenes from a cross section of cultures, while “Jack Frost” creates a wintry world inspired by the familiar character.

Other displays include “The Crystal Tree” made from nearly 2,000 crystals salvaged from vintage chandeliers, “A 19th Century Christmas” featuring a feather tree, German toys and more from the time period. “Santa’s Village and Workshop” features an immersive family-friendly experience with crafts and photo opportunities.

“It really grabs the heart of people coming through at Christmas time,” Worrellia says. “For some people it makes their holiday.”
