Dean Davis Unveils New Toledo Mural

Toledo-based artist Dean Davis recently completed the 20th mural in his quest to create 100 public works of art across the Glass City. Located at 324 N. Erie St. and sponsored by Techledo, the new work of a young boy reading while sitting with a dog promotes literacy and early childhood education while also illustrating the bond between kids and animals.

“The mural is about creating a safe and encouraging space to grow,” Davis said in a Sept. 8, 2026, press release announcing the completion of the mural. “Reading can open an entirely new world for a young person, and the companionship of an animal can bring comfort and confidence to that experience. I wanted this piece to capture the power of those moments.”

Davis launched 100 Works of Art in late 2025 with the goal of creating 100 murals and public installations across Greater Toledo. Works are developed in partnership with local organizations, businesses, families and supporters, so the art represents the people and values connected to each location where art is created.

“Every mural begins with a conversation,” Davis said in the release. “I listen to the people connected to the project and look for the story we can share through the artwork. When a mural is finished, it no longer belongs to the artist, it becomes part of the community.”

Davis created the River Gallery Project with an aim to create 23 murals along the Maumee River as a Toledo beautification effort. His 100 Works of Art expands that original vision to encompass dozens of additional works of art throughout Lucas County.

The River Galley Project was highlighted in our Jan./Feb. 2026 “Ohio Love” feature, and Davis painted the cover art for that issue, depicting a lighthouse along the Lake Erie shore.
