July 2012 Issue
In this slide show, hikers bushwack their way along a new trail.
In May, Ohio Nature Conservancy and Buckeye Trail hikers
explore the land that will link the Conservancy's Edge of Appalachia preserve and
Shawnee State Park and Forest (see the July 2013 issue Digest, "Walking on Sunshine").
Accompanying the slide show are field notes by Josh Knights,
executive director of the Conservancy's Ohio program. In addition to viewing the
uncommon plants and wildlife native to this forested hill country, the group encountered landmarks such as ruins of an old sawmill and mapped the proposed 14-mile trail.
