What's in a name? For Athens' Own, an independent southeast Ohio business based in Amesville, it's the pride associated with promoting local products. Established five years ago by former chef Constantine Faller, Athens' Own serves as a marketing and distributing company for high-quality food, goods and services.
"I'm just one of many who realizes that we can't keep importing everything," Faller says. "We have to find additional resources by developing and promoting our local entrepreneurs."
One of those is Dawn Chorus Coffee, an organic, fair-trade and shade-grown brew available in local shops and at the Athens Farmers Market. Through the years, Faller has developed numerous partnerships and now distributes a wide range of foods, including beef and specialty meats, aged cheddar cheese, kettle-cooked potato chips and pickled jalapeno peppers. Athens' Own also distributes fine crafts and serves as a networking hub for quality services.
"One of the goals of Athens' Own is to help artists, craftspeople, farmers and producers do what they love," says Kathy Jacobson, the group's communication coordinator.
