In-Town Tastings
Wineries and distilleries are finding homes in Ohio’s city centers.
Laura Taxel
A trip to a winery usually means a drive out to the country, where you can sample the vintner’s handiwork in sight of fields and vines. But not all winemakers choose to do their blending and bottling where the grapes grow.
Wineries are popping up in converted factories, industrial parks, downtown storefronts and suburban neighborhoods all around the country. Artisan distilleries making small-batch spirits also are locating their operations in cities from coast to coast. In Ohio, you can have the tasting-room experience in Columbus, Cincinnati and Akron. What you sacrifice in rural charm you gain in urban chic.
Close to all kinds of other amenities, including fine dining and hotels, these sipping destinations are perfect for a date, an outing with friends or a getaway weekend, and you just might find one located conveniently close to home.
