A new book celebrates cartoonist Tom Batiuk's groundbreaking comic strip.

Tom Batiuk's life could be the story line of a great comic strip.

Of course, it already is.

“Funky Winkerbean” — Batiuk’s daily comic appearing in 400 newspapers worldwide — has always been pretty autobiographical. Back in 1972, the Medina cartoonist drew on his experiences as an art teacher to create the strip, which revolves around life at fictional Westview High School.
