Oct. 7-9: Wheat Ridge Olde Thyme Herb Fair & Harvest Celebration, 817 Tater Ridge Rd., West Union, 937/544-5639. Set in the rolling hills of Adams County, the fest showcases herbs, crafts and natural products. Antiques, garden supplies, farm equipment, artisans, craftspeople, food and folk music round out this three-day festival.
Oct. 15-16: Adams County Civil War Days, John T. Wilson home, 92 Old St. Rte. 32, Peebles, 937/544-5639. Civil War reenactors from the 70th Ohio Volunteer Infantry present encampments, music, wagon rides and stories.
HOLMES & TUSCARAWAS COUNTIES
Sept. 10: Harvest Fest and Rib Cook Off, downtown Berlin. Enjoy a variety of ribs, as well as a sidewalk sale, entertainment and a parade on Main Street. 10 a.m.-6 p.m.
Sept. 30-Oct. 1: Ohio Swiss Festival, Sugarcreek, 888/609-7592. The town known as “The Little Switzerland of Ohio” hosts this 58th annual event, featuring food, music and parades. Fri. 11:30 a.m.-10 p.m., Sat. 8:45 a.m.-10 p.m.
Oct. 1: Apple Fest on the Farm, Schrock’s Amish Farm, 4363 St. Rte. 39, Millersburg, 330/893-3232. A delightful afternoon of small-town entertainment features children’s activities, pumpkin painting, train and buggy rides. apple butter stirring and lots of apple treats.
Nov. 19: Tis the Season Christmas Shoppe, 4363 St. Rte. 39, Millersburg, 888/893-3604. German glassblower Mario Hausdorfer demonstrates his craft from noon-5 p.m.

GEAUGA COUNTY
Sept. 15-Oct. 15: Fall Scavenger Hunt throughout Geauga County, 440/632-1538. Enjoy this adventure that includes stops at farms, Amish businesses, restaurants and shops during regular business hours.
Sept. 17: Mary Yoder’s Day, Mary Yoder’s Amish
Kitchen, Bakery and Gift Shop, 14743 N. State St., Middlefield,
440/632-1939. The afternoon features crafts on the porch, music, face
painting pony rides and a petting zoo.
Sept. 17-Oct. 30: Patterson Family Fun Fest, 8765 Mulberry Rd., Chesterland, 440/729-7144. The fete features an outdoor play area, reached by a wagon ride, hiking trails, a corn maze, climbing tractors and a pumpkin patch. Hours are 10 a.m-5 p.m.
Oct. 8-9: 63rd Apple Butter Festival, Century Village, 14653 E. Park St., Burton, 440/834-1492. For 62 years, this annual tradition has featured arts, crafts, music — and simmering pots of apple butter galore.
