Fall for Adventure

Ride through autumn during these regional cycling events.
Cooler temperatures and fall colors are the perfect backdrop for bicycle adventures. Below is a list of October rides throughout the state that offer beautiful scenery at any skill level. To find out more about some of the state’s most picturesque bike trails, check out the October issue of Ohio Magazine, where avid cyclist Mary Reed shares some of her favorites.

Oct. 2
Tri-City Bike Ride

Take a 12-mile ride through Licking County and enjoy entertainment and refreshments along the way. The ride starts at 10 a.m., is free and participants will have a chance to win a new bicycle at the end of the trip. T.J. Oct. 10
Fall-N-Leaf 32nd Annual Bicycle Tour

Ride either 37 or 68 miles through scenic Richland and Knox counties. Parts of the tour will be on the paved B&O rail trail. Snacks will be provided along with limited transportation service in the event of illnesses or breakdowns. The ride starts at 10 a.m. and there is an $18 entry fee. Oct. 16
Night Rides on the Towpath Trail

All skill levels are welcome on the 15–20-mile bike rides that begin in Peninsula. Bring your own bike, helmet and headlight for a night tour of the towpath trail. Oct. 16
Tombstone Tour

Enjoy a mostly flat country ride covering 38 miles between Secor Metropark and Oak Openings Metropark. Along the way, riders will visit local graveyards and an orchard. Snacks and lunch will be provided. Bike-safe costumes are encouraged and prizes will be awarded for creativity. Registration begins at 11 a.m. Sign up before Oct. 12 for a $20 entry fee; after the 12th it is $25. Nature Photography Center at Secor Metropark, 10001 W. Oct. 23
Night Riders

Join the free Saturday-evening rides throughout Greene County. All riders must be 18 and older and provide their own bikes, lights and helmets. This 18-mile ride begins and ends at Old Town Reserve with a stop at Young’s Dairy Jersey.
