Butler County

While it may be tempting to hide away at home, make sure to get out and explore this winter.
Jennifer Rogers and Kelly Curran
Though it may be tempting to stay at home on these cold winter days, bundle up, gather the family and head to one of southwest Ohio’s most charming spots. With an abundance of family-focused attractions, a weekend in Butler County will be a treat for all ages.

Those with an appreciation for the arts will be astounded by the beauty at Beau Verre/Riordan Stained Glass Studio (www.beauverre.net). Viewing the works of art at this Middletown gallery helps beat the winter blues. The oldest continually operating stained-glass studio in the U.S., Beau Verre is home to sculptures, paintings, jewelry and more.

Families looking to add a little excitement to their winter days will love EnterTRAINment Junction, one of the region’s newest and most popular attractions (www.entertrainmentjunction.com). Located in West Chester, the Junction is the world’s largest indoor train display and features two miles of tracks, an interactive play area, the American Railroad Museum and the Junction Café.

Finally, for sports-minded families, an outing to the Goggin Ice Center is a great idea (www.ice.muohio.edu). Home to the nationally ranked Miami University men’s hockey team, the center hosts public skating events including the ’80s Night Moonlight Skate and the After Hours Skate. Goggin also offers ice-skating lessons for the entire family.
